We have read
about body scrubs in numerous places, most websites suggest adding body scrubs
night routine or most beauty bloggers and Youtubers, use body scrubs before
applying makeup. The irony is that, we usually don’t know what are body scrubs
used for, or don’t know proper definition when we are asked to define it. Body
scrub is a product used to aid in removing the dead skin cells as well as,
curing sun tan and increasing blood circulation.
These scrubs
at home are easy and can be made from ingredients easily available at home.
These scrubs not only aid to moisturize and smooth the skin, but also helps to
reduce tan and pimples. There DIY scrubs of different flavors will help you
save up tons of money.
1. Oatmeal face scrub
This is useful for skin types that are sensitive, I don’t have a sensitive
skin. Oatmeal sooths the skin and exfoliates it, the olive oil present in it
moisturizes and softens the skin. The oatmeal apart from acting as a skin softener
also holds the mixture together. Honey is an ancient secret used by Egyptians for
beauty, honey acts as a moisturizer and gives a glowing effect to skin.
Ingredients:
Half cup of oatmeal
One fourth cup of olive oil
One table spoon of honey
Method:
Mix all the ingredients together and use after washing face with cold
water, then scrub face for two minutes and let scrub stay for 15 minutes.
Reviews:
It left my skin soft, smooth and reduced redness caused by pimples. The
quantity I made was for one time use only, but this mixture could be stored in
fridge up to three days. This scrub also helps in acne scars
2. Coffee scrub
Coffee scrub is easy can be made easily from instant coffee. Since, I love
the smell of coffee, this one is my personal favorite. Coffee is useful
ingredient in this scrub since it wipes away the acidic properties present on
epidermis layers along with dead cells. It also aids in treating pigmentation.
This scrub is useful after you come home or before night time, since it removes
all the pollutants that accumulate on your skin throughout the day.
Ingredients:
2 table spoons of coffee
1 table spoon of honey
1 table spoon of coconut oil
Method:
Mix all the ingredients well, apply on face and leave for twenty to
fifteen minutes. Wash off with cold water
Reviews:
Most people say that coconut oil isn’t suitable for oily skin, but for me
coconut oil in this scrub aided bringing a natural glow. This scrub made my skin
tone even in first attempt which is quite astonishing.
3. Green tea scrub
Green tea is famous as an Asian drink which keeps you fit and has
numerous health benefits. Green tea also has numerous external uses, such as,
green tea acts as an anti-oxidant on skin and, helps to reduce inflammation.
Green tea, also aids in reducing dark circles and wrinkles. If you want your
skin to be wrinkle free, despite old age, this scrub is a must use. Best part
about this scrub is that you won’t have to run market to market in search of
green tea leaves, as they aren’t easily available in Pakistan. Green tea leaves
can be obtained by cutting up a green
tea bag and using the green tea powder present in it.
Ingredients:
Two table spoons green tea
Two table spoons olive or almond oil
One table spoon of honey
Method:
Mix the ingredients together, green tea is hard to mix sometimes so if
you face this situation increase the amount of oil added.
Reviews:
This scrub is suitable for winters in my opinion. Dark circles did
reduce, but this scrub isn’t suitable for storing. Helps with pimples and acne
scars.
4. Sugar lemon scrub
This scrub helps to control the excessive oil. Lemon dries skin but olive
oil balances the lemon helping to moisturize the skin. Lemon helps remove tan
and makes skin fair and bright. This scrub is best for those with oily skin
type.
Ingredients:
Half lemon
Two tablespoons of sugar
One table spoon of lemon zest
One table spoon of olive oil
Method:
Squeeze out lemon, be careful not to add seeds in scrub. Mix the lemon
juice, sugar and olive oil together. This mixture can be stored in fridge for
more than a week.
Reviews:
This is my personal favorite, since it’s not only cheap but made easily
from ingredients lying around home and you don’t have to spend a fortune to get
even skin tone or glowing skin. This can also be used for lips. Since I have
oily skin, lemon didn’t dry out my skin and it felt smooth. The excessive oil
was controlled, means this also helped to reduce pimple. Helped to reduce sun
tan.
These scrubs were made from ingredients present in pantry or can be made
with low cost ingredients, why spend 1000 rupees when you can make DIY scrubs
with natural ingredients. These scrubs are for all skin types, but please do a
patch test before applying scrub all over your face or skin. Making these
scrubs is fun, you can add food colouring and essential oil, if you want to re-create
the exact scrubs available in market.
